A 'no update' update 2005-11-11
So I'm sleeping just fine this morning, enjoying being under the warm cozy covers, enjoying having the bed all to myself, when my cell phone rings in the other room. I open one eye to look at the clock - 8:30 am. I know the call is a blocked/unknown number because of the unique ring on my phone. Not knowing who was calling and knowing I didn't want to rush to answer it only to sound sleepy when talking, I let it go. A minute later, I hear the three beep alert that the caller has left a voice mail message.

Still warm and cozy and now joined in bed by a fuzzy, cuddly kitty, I decide to roll over, close my eye and go back to sleep. Whoever called can wait an hour while I get just a tad bit more rest.

But nature foiled my plans. Because not only did I now realize I had a full bladder that really wanted to be emptied, I also realized the little shot of adrenaline that kicked in when the phone rang had done its job and I was awake. And thinking.

"Was that Qu3st? Did I get the job? Matthew The Recruiter's on the west coast so no way he's calling at 5:30 in the morning. Aww, I love my kitty. Andrew The Hiring Manager is in Chicago but I doubt he's on the clock at this hour. Fuzzy kitty, you've got a wet nose this morning. Maybe it was Angi3's L!st finally calling for an in-person interview next week. That would be awesome! But I'd have to tell them I may get offered another job today. Crap, I've gotta pee."

So that was the end of my cozy slumber. The covers were thrown aside, the robe was donned, the bladder was emptied then the cell phone was grabbed. The call registered as Unavailable on caller ID so that provided no clues. I dialed my voice mail to solve the mystery, pencil and paper at the ready to write down all the pertinent information about my new job or my next interview.

The message? Was a wrong number. Someone somewhere wants to talk to me about my Sunoco gas card. I don't have a Sunoco gas card. But I can call them back Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but they're closed Sunday.

Bite me, Sunoco. Then give me a job.
