| Last weekend D and I participated in an Engaged Encounter weekend put on by the Catholic Church. I'd heard a number of positive things about the program from friends, so I sought it out. Neither of us is Catholic so we weren't required to attend, but all faiths are welcome. We both really got a lot out of it and it was definitely worth our time. I'd love to become involved with the program, but since I'm not Catholic, I'm not sure if that's kosher (heh). But the Methodist church (of which I'm a member) does do a similar program so I'll check into involvement there.
In the last week, I bought my wedding ring, mailed the wedding invites, booked hair stylists for myself, my sister and my mom for the wedding day, got a moving estimate and filled out the change of address form with the post office online. The moving estimate? Over two grand. Gah. But I was talking to my sister about it last night and she's right - it's just so worth it. All I'd have to do is pack things up, no heavy lifting involved. It would probably be the best two grand I'd ever spend. So here's how I'm justifying it: when I was looking at rings, I found a lovely eternity ring with princess cut diamonds that would compliment my princess cut diamond engagement ring. Really lovely, but my practical self decided against it and instead bought a plain 14K white gold band. The difference in cost between those two rings? The cost of the movers. Coincidence? I think not. But I'm still going to see if my practical self can knock the estimate down a couple hundred bucks or so. Doesn't hurt to try. |
