Turnabout 2004-07-28
So you know when you get a great opportunity that's all but in the bag and you're so excited about it because it's so great and even thought it hasn't come to fruition quite yet you've been assured that it's only a matter of time and technicality before it's all sown up so you go ahead and tell some people about it because it's just that great and you can't keep it to yourself?

You know?

Well, then you'll also know how that great opportunity comes to a screeching halt and you're left hanging, newly unsure if it's actually going to happen now or if you'll just be left out in the cold because the person who assured you this was a done deal has now emailed that they have several meetings this week with 'people who've expressed interest' even though said person told you last week you were the only one they were talking to and she wanted this all wrapped up in less than a week but that obviously hasn't happened because here you are with your heart in your stomach feeling sick about what might slip through your fingers by no fault of your own.

So yeah. That's the story of my-new-gig-that-might-not-be-after-all. Gah.

Because it makes me quesy to think about that, I'll share some happier thoughts. We started spending actual money on the wedding this past weekend, which definitely makes it feel more real. We bought D's ring, put down a deposit for the reception location and (gasp) I bought a dress.

I know - I was going to have one made! I'd purchased a pattern and had the dressmaker lined up and everything! But then I went to a dress shop in Columbus this weekend and found a truly beautiful designer dress that (snugly) fits me. Originally priced $2,800, I got it for $350. Three fitty! And it so feels and looks like a $2,800 dress.

While it's really beautiful, it's not yet perfect for me. I want the full length sleeves shortened to 3/4, the crew neckline dropped to an open square one in the front and back, and the train removed. Now, the dress shop ladies assured me all this was feasible, but then they were trying to sell me a dress and they aren't seamstresses. So I've taken pictures of the dress and emailed them and my wish list of changes to the dressmaker who was going to create one from scratch for me to see if he's up for altering this one. I sure as hell hope he is.

Oh, and since I've had no movement on my house I listed with a discount broker to get on the MLS. My house hasn't sold because it was just lacking exposure, so this had better have the offers rollin' in the door.
