Something freaky 2004-03-04
Something weird happened yesterday morning as I was leaving for work. I walked downstairs to my basement (which is the way to get to the garage) and when I reached the bottom step, I heard an odd sound. It was like a paper shopping bag had been leaning against something and finally slid down to the ground, but in a loud way.

I looked all around and had no idea what the heck had made the noise. I finally decided to give up and leave, but then noticed a newly forming pool of liquid near a pile of clothes waiting for laundering. My basement occasionally leaks in heavy rain so streaming water isn't a foreign sight, but this one was coming from a direction I'd never seen before. I moved the clothes and followed the stream to find a paper shopping bag on its side, just as I'd originally thought.

But here's the weird part. This bag contained some fake gourds, two tiny hay bales and a fall-themed snow globe (it had been a table decoration at a luncheon I attended last November and I'd won it). That bag of stuff had been in that exact spot in my basement for at least two months with no incident. Then poof! The snow globe bursts of its own accord, the bag collapses and the liquid streams all over. The moment I walk into the basement. Which I do every morning and every evening.

How freaky is that?
